HOME TO GROW
NOT EVERY ACTOR NEEDS ANOTHER AUDITION. SOME ACTORS NEED A HOME TO GROW.
The acting profession has become obsessed with one question:
"When will I become famous?"
Perhaps the better question is:
"When will I become a better actor?"
Too many performers spend years chasing the next commercial, the next television appearance, the next social media moment, or the next opportunity to be seen. Yet many never get the chance to build the discipline, consistency, and range that turns a performer into a true artist.
There is dignity in knowing where your next pay cheque is coming from.
There is value in working consistently.
There is power in being part of an ensemble that demands excellence every day.
The greatest actors in the world were not built by fame. They were built by rehearsal rooms, touring productions, difficult texts, challenging roles, long hours, and a commitment to mastering their craft.
A repertory company offers something many performers rarely experience:
• Regular performance opportunities
• Consistent artistic growth
• Exposure to multiple productions and characters
• The discipline of professional theatre practice
• Touring experience
• Ensemble collaboration
• Financial stability through sustained employment
• The opportunity to stretch beyond your comfort zone
Can you perform Shakespeare one week and contemporary theatre the next?
Can you sing?
Can you move?
Can you tell stories in front of audiences night after night?
Can you remain disciplined when the work becomes demanding?
Can you commit to becoming an actor rather than simply being seen as one?
The Young Touring Company 2026/27 is looking for performers who are ready to challenge themselves.
This is not simply an audition for a role.
It is an opportunity to develop your craft through meaningful work, rigorous training, touring, and performance.
If you are serious about acting as a profession, if you value growth over instant recognition, and if you are prepared to commit yourself to the discipline of the theatre, we invite you to apply.
Challenge yourself.
Grow your craft.
Expand your range.
Build your career.
The stage is waiting.
AUDITION PROCESS
Interested performers are invited to submit the following self-tape audition materials:
1. One monologue from a William Shakespeare play
2. One contrasting monologue of your own choice demonstrating range, versatility, and variation in performance style.
Applicants should ensure that both monologues showcase their acting ability, vocal expression, characterisation, and stage presence.
Shortlisted performers will be invited to attend an in-person Group Workshop and Audition on 15 June 2026 in Johannesburg.
The workshop audition will include:
• Acting exercises and scene work
• Movement and dance assessment
• Singing assessment
• Ensemble collaboration activities
Applicants must be able to sing, dance/move, and act, and should demonstrate versatility and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced repertory performance environment.

Performers who have applied in previous years and were unsuccessful are encouraged to apply again. Growth is part of the journey, and every season offers new opportunities.
This version shifts the focus from "getting a role" to "building a sustainable acting career," which tends to resonate strongly with serious theatre practitioners.
