OPEN AUDITION FOR JOHANNESBURG-BASED ACTORS

AUDITION CALL: JOHANNESBURG-BASED YOUNG TOURING COMPANY 2026/27 

A dynamic Young Touring Company based in Johannesburg is seeking versatile young performers to join its 2026/27 repertory touring season.

The company stages a diverse repertoire of productions, including the works of William Shakespeare such as Romeo & Juliet, Othello, and Macbeth, alongside contemporary and classical theatre productions performed throughout Southern Africa and internationally.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR?

• Male and female performers under the age of 35

• Actors residing within a 10km radius of Johannesburg CBD (due to early call times and rehearsal schedules)

• Passionate theatre practitioners with strong discipline and commitment

• Performers who are confident working with Shakespearean text

• Strong team players who thrive in an ensemble environment

• Artists who can sing, dance/move, and act

• Strong musical and vocal abilities are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the audition process

• Quick learners who can adapt to multiple productions within a repertory company structure

ABOUT THE COMPANY

This is a touring repertory company, meaning performers will be cast across multiple productions during the season. Successful candidates must be available for rehearsals, performances, and touring commitments throughout the production period.

Touring opportunities across Southern Africa and internationally.

AUDITION PROCESS

Interested performers are invited to submit the following self-tape audition materials:

1. One monologue from a William Shakespeare play

2. One contrasting monologue of your own choice demonstrating range, versatility, and variation in performance style.

Applicants should ensure that both monologues showcase their acting ability, vocal expression, characterisation, and stage presence.

Shortlisted performers will be invited to attend an in-person Group Workshop and Audition on 15 June 2026 in Johannesburg.

The workshop audition will include:

• Acting exercises and scene work
• Movement and dance assessment
• Singing assessment
• Ensemble collaboration activities

Applicants must be able to sing, dance/move, and act, and should demonstrate versatility and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced repertory performance environment.

AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must indicate their availability for:

• The in-person audition on 15 June 2026
• Rehearsals, performances, and touring commitments from June 2026 to December 2026

PREVIOUS APPLICANTS

Performers who have auditioned or submitted applications to the company in previous years and were unsuccessful are warmly encouraged to apply again. As artists grow and develop, new opportunities emerge, and we welcome fresh submissions from returning applicants.
