A CALL TO THE COMMUNITY

Share Your Memories & Be Part of the Legacy

As South Africa prepares to honour two towering figures of its theatre heritage, Bongani Linda and Peter Ngwenya, practitioners across the creative sector are being called upon to play an active role in preserving their legacy.

AmaXhanti Projects & Services Pty Ltd invites artists, collaborators, students, and community members to contribute to a living archive of memories, stories, and images that reflect the profound impact these two legends have had on South African theatre and community life. This is more than a tribute—it is a collective act of remembrance shaped by those who experienced their work, their mentorship, and their presence.

In the true spirit of African storytelling and collective memory, the call recognises that these were not only theatre-makers, but community builders who nurtured, guided, and inspired generations. As the African proverb reminds us, “it takes a village to raise a child,” and in the same way, it takes a community to honour and preserve the legacy of its cultural leaders. Every shared moment—whether big or small—forms part of a broader narrative that deserves to be told and remembered.

Practitioners are encouraged to reflect deeply:

Where did you encounter their work?
How did their voice shape your artistic journey?
What lessons, memories, or moments still live with you today?

Every memory matters.

Submissions collected through this process will be creatively curated and presented as part of the “Linda & Ngwenya: Legends Remembered, Legacy Lives On” festival, taking place at Uncle Tom’s Hall from 23–25 April 2026. Through these shared contributions, the festival becomes not only a programme of performances, but a community-driven reflection of legacy in motion.

In addition, the submission platform will serve a dual purpose. All respondents will be included in a festival database through which organisers will share the detailed programme, updates, and key announcements

The form also functions as an RSVP platform, allowing organisers to better prepare for audience attendance and participation in masterclass sessions.

This is an opportunity not only to remember—but to be counted, to be present, and to stand as part of a living community that continues to carry the work of those who came before.
