FROM BLOGSPOT TO A DOMAIN

A Necessary Transition, A Serious Commitment

The transition from Blogspot to our own domain is more than a technical upgrade. It is a clear statement of intent.

For The Creative Passport, moving from a free blogging platform to a dedicated domain signifies our serious commitment to building a credible, independent, and accountable online media publication focused on the Cultural and Creative Industries in South Africa.

We would like to begin by thanking everyone who has supported the platform since its early days — readers, practitioners, artists, cultural workers, policymakers, researchers, organisers, critics, and even those who have challenged us.

Every read, share, comment, disagreement, and engagement has helped shape what this platform is becoming.

This transition would not have meaning without the community that has grown around the work.

Why the Move Matters

Moving from Blogspot to a dedicated domain is not about aesthetics or status. It is about credibility, ownership, and accountability.

A domain allows us to:

  • Own our digital space fully

  • Strengthen editorial independence

  • Improve discoverability and archiving of content

  • Prepare the platform for formal regulatory and professional processes

It also signals that The Creative Passport is not a temporary project or a casual blog — it is a long-term media intervention in the cultural policy, governance, and creative economy discourse.

The Next Six Months: A Critical Phase

The next six months are crucial for the growth and positioning of The Creative Passport.

During this period, we are working intentionally towards:

  • Press Council of South Africa membership

  • Strengthening editorial systems and internal processes

  • Clarifying our publishing standards and ethical framework

  • Expanding the scope and depth of our coverage

This phase is about building institutional credibility without losing our critical edge.

Welcoming Contributing Writers

As part of this growth, we will soon begin welcoming contributing writers.

These will include:

  • Practitioners and cultural workers

  • Researchers and academics

  • Policy analysts

  • Emerging and established writers interested in arts, culture, governance, and society

The Creative Passport will remain a space where independent thinking, critical engagement, and uncomfortable questions are not only allowed but encouraged.

An Open Call for Partnerships

We also reaffirm that everyone is welcome to partner with us as media partners, provided that such partnerships do not compromise our editorial independence or the values we stand for.

We believe in collaboration, dialogue, and collective sector growth — but not at the cost of silencing critical voices or sanitising difficult conversations.

A Journey Still Unfolding

This transition marks a new chapter, not a conclusion.

The platform will continue to evolve, sharpen, and challenge — informed by the realities of the sector and the voices of those too often unheard.

Thank you for walking this journey with us.

The work continues.

The Creative Passport is an independent platform focused on Arts, Culture and the Creative Industries. Readers are encouraged to follow, comment and engage constructively.
